1/ Media loves an anniversary, and a serious one impends in cricket: we are approaching a decade since Philip Hughes suffered his mortal blow at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 25 November 2014. Cricket Australia has been working on a documentary; other outlets, including this, have their plans. The Australian, however, has today gone in search of first mover advantage, beginning its coverage almost a fortnight ahead of the date of Hughes’s death. It’s a perfectly sound collection of interviews with some of Hughes’s teammates - Michael Clarke, David Warner, Steve Smith etc - by News Ltd’s Ben Horne. But how desperate for clear air do you have to be to run it so far in advance of any other commemoration? It’s like kicking off your Anzac Day coverage on 11 April. A tasteless misjudgement by people who must imagine that they somehow own the calendar, squandering Ben’s work and insulting the rest of us.
