Thanks to you, Maxy and the Yarras for a great evening. I got there at 7:00 and was peering over to the nets from the pavilion balcony, trundled back inside and only then noticed Maxy had also been on the balcony chatting with, at that point, no more than four or five locals. A total mensch. Can’t wait to see him cut it up in Pakistan.
I know! Our former club president picked him up, and on the way in he spoke on FaceTime to the kids of friend who's undergoing treatment for breast cancer. We asked a lot, and he gave a lot. He could not have been friendlier or kinder. Worth remembering next time you hear that modern cricketers are vain and self-involved.
Always liked Maxi and hoped he’d make it as a test player. When he got that century in India I thought, yay, he’s here to stay. I’m mystified as to why he didn’t, though one school of thought had him being too innovative, potentially, for test batting. Shame.
These nights at our local clubs are special occasions. We had Skull with Ryan Fitzgerald at Port Noarlunga during the Adelaide test. Skull was pitch perfect, it sold out and brought in some well received bunce.
First saw Glen when he hit a storming century for Yorks v Durham at Scarborough in 2015 sharing a big stand with fellow centurion Adil Rashid. Rotten old world at the moment but all set to book tickets for The Saints in London in November!
I got Maxi’s book after hearing your interview with him on the pod, and I’m really enjoying it. I like his brand of self-deprecation, like the story (not in the book, so far anyway) of him bowling to Meg Lanning in a school game, thinking as an Australian U19 player he was too good to be bowling to girls (i’m paraphrasing), and she whacked him for a boundary first ball. Would loved to have heard his insights.
Write as much as you can- I’ll read it. My novel reading rate may have plummeted slightly since the uptake in posts - but we can blame that on the cricket schedulers
Boys, you can never write enough - on cricket or et al! Keep it coming, it’s always a highlight of my day.
OK Bill, I'll test that out!

Oh and do keep writing....
.........just don't flame out.
Missing events like this is a(nother) reason to regret settling in the UK. Looking forward to all future posts from the team.

You're in for a treat, Paul. Ed is on fire.
Just started reading this. By itself, Kohli’s foreword is a nice surprise!

When too much Cricket et al is barely enough…
Gutted that I missed this!

Fiction is one thing you'll never read here, JT. I'm not imaginative enough.
Can Lalor put together a plot?
In theory, he now has more time....
Great to hear about Maxwell. And what a pleasant event
