Great to see this happening!

Reference to Fitzroy-Doncaster brings back memories of the late W John Scholes who sadly died too young. Fitzroy was a great Victorian cricket nursery beyond the Harveys: Froggy for one, Eddie Illingworth, Lindsay Davison and many more.

Hi Gideon.

Thanks so much for the notice of this worthy event which I can attend.

I played Dowling Shield for Fitzroy in ‘79 and had a season under Jeff Harvey in the 2nd XI in ‘81/82, before having to go to Melbourne Uni, such were the rules. Best skipper I ever had. I’d just like to shake his firm hand again.

I think all new players were schooled in the Harvey lore, not by them mind, they were too humble.

The Harveys are indeed Fitzroyalty.

Thank you for your news of the Plaque and development of “Harvey Lane”. We plan to attend the opening as invitees of Pauline Harvey-Short who is Kirby Short’s (my God daughter) mother, and Clarence (Mick) Harvey’s daughter. You would be aware that Kirby captained the Brisbane Heat and is a wonderful commentator on Foxsports. Mick is a somewhat overlooked Harvey boy, however he played for Victoria and Queensland as well as umpiring Tests; and was my coach at Toombul CC in Brisbane. We now live in Fitzroy North.

Really hoping to see Kirby, Colin. I'd love her to say a few words actually.

Thanks GH on ensuring this important historical lane and its memories aren’t lost to ‘progress’. BTW, does the lane way have a name? I couldn’t see it on your article

It does not. But, if I have anything to do with it, it will!

Imagine trying to play on that cobblestone street!

Bet there’s no 30 foot high sightscreen either.

Ask him if he remembers hitting six 6's in one over in an under 16 grand final with South Belgrave. My mate umpired the game.

I'm pretty sure he would. Who would forget doing that!

Jeez I'd retire after that.
