With Cam Green fit again and Beau Webster impressing it is looking more difficult for Konstas to open in the World Test Championship
When Sam Konstas took down Jasprit Bumrah on that heady Boxing Day morning at the MCG all of cricket fell in love with the tousled-haired teen. How then do we find ourselves, just one Test further into his career, debating whether he should or should not open for his country in the World Test Championship final?
Given what happened in front of 87,242 cricket fans that day, it hardly seems likely the occasion is going to get to the kid.
Still, there is no guarantee Konstas, who has just secured his first Australian contract, will walk out to the middle with Usman Khawaja when the team takes on South Africa at Lord’s from June 11 in the World Test Championship Final.
In recent weeks, I’ve heard talk of all manner of adjustments to the order, including pushing Marnus Labuschagne up to open and slotting Cameron Green in at No.3.
