A few weeks ago I learned that the Sesquicentenary Test was to be played at night. Last week it was officially announced. On neither occasion could I bring myself to write anything. I was against it; I still am. But, to be honest, there comes a point where ennui takes hold, and one starts to nod fatalistically that there is barely any keeping bad ideas from the game. Administrators grind them out remorselessly, mostly from an eagerness to please their corporate partners, and there is nobody in any position of authority equipped to state a contrary case - financial arguments are made, heads around the board table nod obediently, and the announcement arrives as a fait accompli.
