The first ex-cricketer turned columnists I can remember were Bill O’Reilly and Jack Fingleton. Probably in the early 1970’s and I can’t even remember what paper they wrote for, but they were forthright and entertaining.
It all makes sense now. Years ago I came aross a scathing Keith Miller review of the opening day of the 1981 Boxing Day test published in the Oz. I think Hughes' 100 got a few cursory pars. Must have been at Caulfield that day.
The worrying thing is that, if there is better money elsewhere, we’re left with the likes of the Mitch Johnsons (not too bright) and Ollie Robinsons (thoroughly unlikeable) to write/approve columns (Robinson in Wisden no less!)
Mitch’s columns are just parochial WA claptrap, and the less said about Ollie Robinson the better.
Only thing missing here maybe a TikTok reference where the original article is spoofed through imitations and filters creating a new type of crictainment.
Great to read Gideon again.
I thought he was gonna draw comparision between mitch and people who attended Nuremberg rally. Thank god!
Bwahahahaha!

Thank you Gideon. A pleasure as always
