Re umpires and going off for bad light, I agree that it’s a bad look when a six has just been hit but we don’t just need to think about the batters. In less than excellent light it can be very hard for fielders to pick up the ball, and if that’s the case then it can very quickly become unreasonable and/or dangerous. And they don’t have a sightscreen to help either. As an umpire in training in Brisbane 20 years ago the advice was always that whether or not the square leg umpire can pick up the ball all the way through is often the best guide for viewing conditions/safety.
