Great episode guys. Very informative interview with Trent. I hadn’t appreciated he’d played a bit of County Cricket.
Now Gidz; a bit of correction on Hampshire County Cricket Club, of which I am a member: Hampshire is NOT member owned. It’s owned by a PLC (ie limited liability corporation) and it’s this that the GMR Group has bought a controlling stake in.
Essentially they’ve bought the hotel, the golf course, the Utilita Bowl & the operating business that is Hampshire County Cricket Club. As you say, this is a significant development.
Whilst I’m on, and given you are in the great city of Melbourne & I’m in Hampshire, I am always pleased to point out to any of my Aussie pals that Hampshire named a stand after the late, great & very magnificent Shane Warne long before it ever occurred to Cricket Australia or to the MCG.
Ok, it’s not quite as big a stand as the MCG but it will be there when Australia visit in the summer of 2027 ready to welcome all Ozzie & England fans. Hopefully you & Pete will find someone to pay for your air tickets so we can listen to your Tour of England. The grounds, the matches, the pubs, the walks, the music. I look forward to it.
Trent was a very impressive interviewee. We need people like him driving the right outcomes in the lower tiers of cricket. Thanks for the great pod episode!
Having taken some wicket and scored some runs and held onto some catches at Hurstville Oval…. Was great to hear from a St.George club great. Especially the Jack Edwards commentary.
Just subscribed, great episode, enjoyed hearing Trent's insights given the various (bucket) hats he has worn and continues to wear. Three forms of cricket is one too many, and tend to agree with his implied view that 50 over cricket should be phased out at the top level at least. Interesting times ahead, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks cricket is in danger of becoming a minor sport on the world stage (if it isn't already), simply because there is too much of it that is played without meaning...
Great episode. There is a real theme emerging (? perhaps it's very well known) about the harshness in the culture of the national team; Brad Hodge was talking about it on the Willow Talk podcast the other day as well. Sounds dreadful if you weren't already part of the inner sanctum.

Brad would know. It is certainly a far different place these days. National team is all scented candles and throw cushions.
