Listening to PC re the JL (coach change) event, it seems quite clear that he as captain was active in effecting the change (sic) “there’d been lots of conversations”, “this had been going on a while”, “I’d spoken to the right people / channels”, “I’m going to look after my mates”.
I’m curious what you GH and PL think of (a) to what extent were the players involved in the coaching change and was this a putsch; (b) whether it’s right that players should have a say in the selection of their coach; and if so, (c) how much of a say?
I’m not aware of any other professional team sport in which the players have any (or a material) say in coach selection except, maybe , LeBron James at the LA Lakers.
I may well be wrong in my understanding of what happened re JL; and there may be other instances of players in team sports influencing coach choices/changes.
Very enjoyable pod. PC comes over very well. Smart, humble, honest, accepting. Where I don’t agree with him, his reasonable approach invites thoughtful reflection and consideration. He seems to know his own mind, and isn’t too worried if people disagree with him
