Mid way through this afternoon at Perth Stadium, Travis Head nicked off to Jasprit Bumrah. While Head had made 89 Head runs, standing firm and swinging freely, it was a regulation out on a regulation day where really only the margin of Australian defeat was up for negotiation.
Though Bumrah had hit Smith in the sternum and Mohammad Siraj had sent a delivery past Head’s ankles early on, the pitch had played well. The crowd were enjoying the comfortable terraces and the skies as blue as Paul Newman’s eyes. Still, you’d scarcely have believed it from the Indians’ cathartic primal scream on securing their sixth second-innings wicket.
