And as the sun finally starts to shine on the season here in the old country, the pod also returns from behind the clouds. Chapeau to you and Pete. Great to see it back
Hi Gideon. I read this and followed the link to the article about Paul Melville as the name rang a bell. Then it came back to me that I saw him play in the Lancashire League at Bacup for Rishton in the late 1970s. I had no idea of his tragic early death.
My grandparents lived next to Bacup Cricket Club and that’s where I watched my earliest cricket matches and got to see some world stars playing as professionals for various Lancashire League clubs. This has all changed now with the advent of T20 leagues etc. It got me thinking that there might be an interesting book to be written about Australians playing in the Lancashire leagues. I remember Bacup signing a very young Mark O’Neill, son of Norm, who ended up coaching internationally I think.
Pedantic maybe but surely it was fifty years and two months since the Chappell double twin tons Test? As a single-figure-aged English kid obsessed with Australian cricket in the seventies I knew those numbers well. On a similar note I saw footage of the Thompson / Turner collision from Adelaide in 1976 for the first time last night. All these years I’d imagined the camera being at Thommo’s end 😊
I like The Dandy Warhols. Although I've boiled my Dandy's listening down to one album, specifically 3 songs. The one two of Be-In and Boys Better, and Every Day Should Be A Holiday.
This is actually Ten Things #8. Apologies to email recipients that had it sent as #7; mia culpa.

Absolutely. Uplifting to read a smart new voice in long form on the game 🙂

Thanks again, Gideon. Like yourself, Anwen's great on a variety of topics and she's especially excellent on music. A cornucopia.

They're pretty formulaic, but it's not a bad formula.
Slow day in the troll farm, Adarsh?
Thanks for popping by. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
