And then there was Ronald Reagan whose dementia diagnosis was announced five years after his second presidency ended. The trajectory of dementia is such that it is certain he suffered at least its prodrome, Mild Cognitive Impairment, when in office when he was politely described as disinterested (might explain his ignorance about the Iran Contra affair). It doesn't matter whether Biden has dementia or not, the situational complexity of the task at hand is what matters in capacity assessment: he might be able to oversee the Seattle Orcas franchise but US Forces? A welcome check to my own tendencies to regard current circumstances as unparalleled. Harding is always a good reminder of how debased in their venality US presidents can be.

One of the key differences between Wilson and Biden is that Biden is NOT hidden away; he is out front, meeting international leaders. Additionally, whether it's Biden or his advisers / staffers, the administration is getting stuff done.

That is rather the point, I believe.

Wonks “getting stuff done” is the antithesis of democracy, surely?

Biden’s public appearances have surely been substantially curtailed, relative to functioning leaders in history and abroad. The complicit, gaslighting media have hitherto glossed over, or ignored, his many blatant lapses in public.

Yeah yeah Trump bad - yet is it better that a man with evident incapacities be propped up for 4 years, with government run by those with no scrutiny and no mandate? Is that what Biden himself (or his historic capable self) would wish? That too would represent the end of Democracy - if the recent Supreme Court ruling has not brought it about anyway.

The electorate is not as stupid as the media believe, and low turnout for Joe gives the orange one a path to the White House. Where are the capable, decent people on either side of the divide? The next Obama, McCain, Romney?

Pretending things are ok is not a strategy.

This is off topic but surprised Jimmy Anderson has been forced to retire when he only needs a handful of wickets to pass Warne. Yesterday Jimmy was the pick of the bowlers in West Indies 2nd innings

Should someone continue to be picked just to give them a chance to pass another players milestone? Not sure about that.
