After a lengthy examination of JL’s penchant for the power of the female cricketing deity, Pete & Gid got to another top ten list; this one about ‘Mother Cricket’.
If you’ve not caught Gid’s Ten Things article you can get a deep dive on all things maternal in the great game.
In true Et Al fashion, there’s only eight songs listed. Please feel free to chime in the comments with any other suggestions.
The title of this weeks podcast ‘Mother Earth’ conjured a jazz inspired spiritaulized album a la Alice Coltrane (yes, John Coltranes wife and yes, its worth a listen).
With that in mind we’ve got our cover art for this weeks top ten featuring the cricketing deity of JL deep in utopia after the maternal granted him safe passage after his explanation of ‘banter’.

Psycho - Eddie Noak
This was written by Leon Payne as Pete had thought. Inspiration for the tune widely thought to have been the Manson Murders and the Hitchcock film of the same name. Eddie Noak was the singer in 1969 only a few months before Leon Payne died of a heart attack. Seems a few others picked up the ball and ran with it;
Here is Neil Gaiman doing vocals on a cover of ‘Psycho’ with his second wife, Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls on uke…
Other covers include the Beasts of Bourbon…
… and our man Elvis Costello
