Pete has spoken for both of us here. Sam was a great companion in 2019, an astute judge of cricket, a true team player. He'll be an especially great loss to his mentor, the indefatigable Paul Amy. But we're all diminished today.

Very sad to hear about this - seemed a most decent fellow. A bit like "Simon the Likeable" from Get Smart. As a fellow Melbs High School traveller, can I say Sam, you did live up to the “Honour the work” motto. Godspeed.

Like most of us I could not believe it was true. Young Sam with that beautiful smile and cheeky grin that accompanied him everywhere. The Footscray Bulldog if ever there was one - gone. Whenever I was in town to cover footy or cricket there was Sam with that smile beavering away like no other. He will be sorely missed but there are wonderful memories of a young man going places. VALE Sam

Nice one, Pete. Wretched and tragic indeed. Never met the man. My loss, from the sounds.

Fantastic tribute Pete. As usual you encapsulate things so beautifully. I never met him but now I feel I know him really well. RIP Sam
